Type Locality and Naming

Khao Kwang Platform (Saraburi region): Khao Phu Phe, east of Km post 131-132, Friendship highway grid ref. between 250 to 280 E and 150 to 180 N, sheet 47 P/FG 13, series L7017 (Hinthong and others, 1985). Parent unit: Saraburi Gr.

Lithology and Thickness

Pinkish-grey to very dark grey limestone with chert in tabular nodules parallel with bedding and partially intercalated with slaty shale: base up thrusted on the Sab Bon Fm (metasedimentary rocks).

Thickness: 593 m.

Fossils

Fossil assemblages from the Phu Phe Fm include the fusulines Triticites, Pseudoschwagerina, Zellia, Acevroschwagerina, Robustoschwagerina and Paraschwagerina (Hinthong 1981; DMR 2001) which broadly indicate a latest Pennsylvanian–Early Permian (Gzhelian–Yakhtashian) age (Ueno and Charoentitirat, 2011).
